I, Too. By Langston Hughes.

I, too, sing America.

I am the darker brother.
They send me to eat in the kitchen
When company comes,
But I laugh,
And eat well,
And grow strong.

Tomorrow,
I’ll be at the table
When company comes.
Nobody’ll dare
Say to me,
“Eat in the kitchen,”
Then.

Besides,
They’ll see how beautiful I am
And be ashamed—

I, too, am America.

A.D.D.

I can’t help it that I take things too literally sometimes. I really can’t. I wish I could, because I wouldn’t be so damn nervous all the time about everything. Its like I’m not in control of things. But then again no one is ever completely in control, which I have a hard time accepting. I suppose the problem lies in my pre-conceived notion that everything has to be perfect, and in the instant that everything goes to shit, I would rather verbally attack everyone and hide in a hole than actually fix things logically. My mom may send me to as many therapists as she likes, and those therapists can tell me I have as many disorders as they wish, but none of that will ever solve anything. Medication? Medication is something created by the pharmaceutical industry, with nothing more than some cash in mind. You’re better off smoking some weed than taking some Ritalin, because you’re creativity and ability to think freely will at least remain unhindered. Which is how I chose to live, regardless of whether I break the law, break peoples hearts, or break down my parents’ expectation of me. I live freely and creatively, and choose to go about it in the most unorthodox fashion imaginable.
